River Cleanup
The City of Ottawa has passed a comprehensive plan to stopping storm water overflows and improve the water quality in the Ottawa river. In the first year of the $203M fourteen year plan, 38 per cent of e-coli will be reduced. By 2035, 59 percent will be reduced by targeted plans for each of the three main sources (Ottawa, Gatineau and the Gatineau sewage treatment plant). $72M of the funding will be spent to manage storm water that flows into the river upstream from the City which is the prime cause for closures at Westboro Beach.
